About having a cold.

Posted on August 2, 2008, by carina, under Disasters.

When you are having a cold, it feels a little just like being our phone company, Codetel. Things happen when they happen, and if it works, it works. The only difference is that Codetel manage to make money in that shape, and I do not.

This is Oliver

Posted on July 27, 2008, by carina, under How it is.

Meet Oliver. He is 19 and a Puerto Plateño. He is a basketball player, and was part of Gustavo Behall team winning the Puerto Plata tournament. He is one of those that always have a minute to spare if someone needs help, he loves babies and he can play for hours with dogs. In his spare time after school, he did extra work and now, after a year, he is the proud owner of his first computer.

Oliver lives with his mother here in Puerto Plata, and is one of the best friends that Beloved Son has. Now he is asking for some help, and maybe one of you will be able to do the greatest favor anyone will ever do for him in his life.

He is looking for his father. They met several times, but over the years both time and distance made them lose contact. His father is from Germany, his name is Oliver Braun and he is 47 years today. He used to live in Mainz, Germany and work in contruction. A few years ago he moved to another town, and Oliver does not remember the name of that town.

If anyone knows how these things works in Germany, please help Oliver to find his father. He is not searching for gold or trips abroad. He is in search of his roots, he wants to know, now when he is old enough to understand, where he comes from. He wonders if he maybe have siblings out there, if there are grandparents alive that would love him and he wonders how his father is doing, he dreams to tell him about his own life, about the basketball tournament and he wants to tell him that he is fine, just fine.

Henri

Posted on July 26, 2008, by carina, under Dear Neighbors.

Henri is my favourite neighbour so far. He is about 14-15 years old and he lives with his mother and a little brother. Henri is not spoiled in any way, his aunt who lives in the US is helping the family out, and they live in an apartment that she owns. While the other kids run around with their ipods, then Henri plays the radio in his home. When the other kids take off on their scooters, then Henry goes even faster on his bicycle. When the other kids play their Xboxes or watch TV, then Henri is outside taking to people, or taking care of his little brother.

But Henri has something that the spoiled kids don’t have. He is a complete bag of sunshine, always ready to help and assist. He knows where trouble is, he knows where the main key to water is located and he knows every single person in the neighborhood. He knows who’s a doctor and who is a vet. He knows which colmado that is cheapest and where to get the best ice cream. Henri knows everything.

Henri for president one day. That’s my opinion.

zzzz

Posted on July 21, 2008, by carina, under Dear Neighbors, Disasters.

Tired. But any day soon I will tell you about my former landlord and my deposits that I had given for the other house downtown. You might remember my landlord. It is the same man who overcharged me for electricity, “forgot” to pay to Edenorte and when the electricity was cut off, then he pretended to be in a coma at a hospital in Miami. He went there on a motoconcho by the way.

The last time I saw him was when he was supposed to pay me back the deposits. That will be a story for any day soon.

The last breath

Posted on July 20, 2008, by carina, under How it is.

I met her at the hardware store. I don’t think that I have seen her in over a year. The first thing she said was that she is working too hard. As a sign of doing great.

So I said, relax a little instead. Not in the meaning of being lazy, but in the sense of getting stuff together instead of struggling. We can not measure how we are doing in the amount of hours we put in our work, that is plain nonsens.

No one will want to buy a last breath anyway.

Shower curtains

Posted on July 18, 2008, by carina, under How it is.

Shower curtains have a certain standard design. Even if you want new rings or hangers you always end up with getting a package with the same amount as the curtain have holes. It doesn’t matter if you bought the shower curtain at a completely different place, or if you use an old one. It always fits, and the holes and the rings are the same amount.

That is amazing. Shower curtains are made in all kinds of countries, in all sorts of designs and models. And we have managed to an agreement when it comes to the amount of holes for rings. There is hope for mankind after all.

The real benefit with the new place is that Beloved Son has his own bathroom. No one likes to share bathroom with a teen, and I am no exeption.

Back to regular life

Posted on July 17, 2008, by carina, under Me & I.

I am back to regular life. I moved. I left the noises downtown and moved just outside, a 5 minutes ride. I got myself a huge penthouse apartment, with a lots of space. In a calm and quiet neighborhood.

Now I am all settled. All is working as it should do, and all in 3 days! Invertor is functioning. Waterheater is doing its job. Codetel transfered my phone line and internet in 3 days. The friends that Beloved Son gathered to move the stuff, didn’t destroy one single thing.

All I hear is birds, a few kids and some neighbors. When the electricity goes off, one hardly notice it as every house has a backup. And there are almost no cars, so Doggie can run free and happy. Still the main road is around the corner, the motoconcho parada is 1 minute away and the colmado is around the corner.

No more Victorian wooden houses for a while. I will enter the modern life now, and I love it.

Dominican Oktoberfest

This will be fun. Book October 3-5 for a Cerveza Festival in Puerto Plata. If the organizers are lucky, I might even have had the time to finish their website before the festival starts!
